Breast cancer takes an emotional toll--even when you live to tell the tale. My diagnosis came nearly one year after my life-changing oral cancer surgery. 😰
When bad things happen to us, it's important to remember that we are becoming more and more 'real' every day, and that it is a gift to be a fellow survivor and advocate. Just like in the children's story The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams, you are REAL and you are LOVED: "He said, 'You Become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real, you can't be Ugly...except to people who don't understand'."
